To wrap up our great big summer road trip, we ended in Badlands National Park in South Dakota. It is a very spiritual place for both Jon and myself. We went back country and were able to see the beauty sunshine brings and the beauty of a Badlands storm. The energy on this land is something that is indescribable, but thick and powerful. I hope that these photos do that justice in some tiny way. And by that I mean: I hope they make you feel small; like yo uare a part of something so much bigger than you. Something beyond words and beyond beauty. But it's part of you because it is part of our natural world.
"One thing in the world, of value, is the active soul." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
We set up our home and immediately noticed storm clouds rolling in swiftly. The temperatures dropped and the winds picked up in a matter of minutes. It was gorgeous and dark.
We felt like we were in a painting. The contrast of colors on this landscape was something neither of us had seen before. The lightening in the distance was massive and the winds became incredibly hard and fast. It was followed by an onslaught of large hail and then by pelting rain.
We cannot wait to return.
