Paddling feels good. There is something completely free about it. And then throwing huge mountains into the mix? Forget it- the best! This series of photos is from Twin Lakes, which sits at 9,200ft and sits at the base of Elbert and La Plata. Two 14ers that rise into the sky sharply, creating some amazing and dramatic views. Especially from the middle of a bright blue lake!
We had some very on-and-off weather. Which is pretty typical, but always makes a day on the water exciting. From this elevation, storms can roll in rather quickly. We lucked out and missed some big ones, but were able to watch the mountains get pounded with rain. A thick sheet of black and blue spilling on the steep slopes.
The clouds added a fun element, reflecting off of the clear water with just enough stillness to mirror them back to the sky.
"A lake carries you into recesses of feeling otherwise impenetrable." -William Wordsworth
I know that Leadville will be a place for solitude and peace for years to come. The majestic nature of the place really soothes the soul. From the most vividly colored lakes, to the very high summits; it is impossible to not feel small. In the best way possible.
